The El Dorado Community Foundation considers several types of competitive grant requests. When funding is available from any of the following funds, the Foundation will issue a Request for Proposals, including the current funding focus and application deadline.
Endow El Dorado Fund – The Foundation’s Board of Directors consults closely with community leaders and organizations to select an appropriate funding focus that will be responsive to current community needs.
Field of Interest Funds – Awards are made in areas designated by donors who established these funds (such as arts and culture, children and families, and seniors).
Area Funds – Different geographic areas within the county are establishing funds to benefit the people in these specific local communities within the county.
The Foundation seeks proposals from non-profit service and religious organizations as well as other groups conducting charitable work who respond to the focus and goals outlined in each Request for Proposal. Grants are made which benefit the people of El Dorado County. Funding may be given to organizations with offices outside of El Dorado County for services or programs for residents of El Dorado County.
The Foundation will not make competitive grants for:
- debt reduction
- fund raising events
- religious activities
Proposal review committees are comprised of members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors and community representatives.
They carefully evaluate each application, seeking opportunities to make effective use of the community’s donations by placing a high priority on applications that successfully address the following topics:
- Capacity of the Organization – how well do the organization’s board, volunteers and staff demonstrate the skills, experience, and commitment to carry out the proposed project?
- Organization Mission and Funding Focus – to what extent does the project relate to both the organization’s core mission and the Community Foundation’s current funding focus?
- Need for Project – is this project appropriate for the area or population it intends to serve, does it demonstrate community support, and is it unique or will it involve collaboration with other organizations?
- Objectives and Methods – does this project have clear and measurable goals that will result in a meaningful improvement to our community?
- Budget and Project Sustainability – is the project budget realistic and will the project be sustainable after an investment from the Foundation?
Committee recommendations will be presented to the Foundation’s Board of Directors, which makes all final decisions. Foundation staff will notify all applicants of the Board’s decision in writing and in a timely manner. Successful applicants will be required to submit narrative and financial reports that explain the outcomes of the funded projects. |
