GET THOSE SPADES & SHOVELS READY

The Markham Builders Club is a community service club at Markham Middle School, led by the Kiwanis Club of Placerville. The club of 45 youth members is working to create a school garden with the intention of learning healthy life skills. The garden will provide 1) A source of healthy foods for a Farmer’s Market, 2) A teaching tool in history with one bed devoted to ancient/medieval garden species, 3) A teaching tool for math and science classes, and 4) A source of pride for the school.
The garden is designed for container gardening in 12 separate, irrigated beds. Community members are being offered an opportunity to “buy a bed” and plant their own garden or leave it for the club to plant. Winter or summer plots are for sale for $20-$30, which is the projected per-container cost for water. The Club is also offering suggestions for “successful gardening”, available planting dates, as well as seeds for your garden bed.
