2004 Grants


$378,000 in grants was awarded in 2004.

The major projects that received funding were:

  • Asociación Guadalupana, to teach English language classes that incorporate health, nutrition, and other educational programs into their curriculum.
  • El Dorado Union High School District, to provide wrap-around services to all English Learner students at El Dorado High School by interlinking academic and social service assistance within the lives of students and their families.
  • Legal Services of Northern California, to provide legal education and assistance to the Latino community in South Lake Tahoe. Consumers will be educated about their legal rights and responsibilities. Legal representation will be provided for a few cases that may have broad community impact.
  • Louisiana Schnell School, to implement the Latino Family Literacy Project, a family reading and literacy skills program.
  • Marshall Medical Center, to develop and implement a model system for Spanish medical interpretation and translation, and to train bilingual healthcare interpreters throughout the county to improve doctor-patient communication.
  • South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center, to lead a collaborative project of the Boys and Girls Club, Sierra Recovery Center, the Women’s Center, and Tahoe Youth and Family Services. This multi-faceted program will provide translation services, educational programs, mentoring, and counseling to young people and their families.
