2003 Grants


$636,600 in grants was awarded in 2003.  

The major projects that received funding were:


  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of El Dorado County, to support the Middle School Mentor Project, which provides adult mentors for at-risk students.
  • Black Oak Mine Unified School District, Support for an after-school youth development program at Georgetown and Northside schools.
  • Boys and Girls Club of El Dorado County, Western Slope, for the Stay Smart Program, which provides teens with knowledge, skills, and peer support to help them avoid using alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, and postpone sexual activity.
  • Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, for the Smart Girls/Smart Moves Project, which increases coping and life skills for girls age 12-14.
  • CALSTAR - California Shock/Trauma Air Rescue, to purchase two infant training manikins to maintain medical personnel proficiency in the care of pediatric patients in El Dorado County.
  • CASA El Dorado, to provide training for new volunteers who will advocate for children in the Juvenile Dependency Court System.
  • El Dorado County Foster Parent Association, to support the annual holiday party for children living in foster homes.
  • El Dorado High School Cougar Band Aides, to replace 50 year-old and irreparable equipment for the symphonic band.
  • El Dorado Women’s Center, for the TEACH Club, a student-created program that exists to stop bullying, harassment, discrimination, and violence on middle-school campuses. Family Resource Center, to help Latino/low-income teens receive mental health counseling, in-home follow-up care to solve family issues, and referrals to other community support services.
  • Lake Tahoe Humane Society and S.P.C.A., to provide support for a middle school program.
  • Lake Tahoe Unified School District, to provide preventive mental health services for students.
  • Marshall Hospital Community Health Library, to provide increased access to mental health resources for youth and caregivers will be provided through the purchase of books, videos, and bilingual brochures.
  • Tahoe Youth and Family Services, to provide therapeutic supplies and activities for at-risk youth.
  • The Upper Room, to help feed families in need and to purchase kitchen equipment.
